STAR Program

Our Interns
The STAR (Skills, Transition, and Readiness) Program at John G. Leach School serves young adults ages 18–22 with mild to moderate disabilities. Our interns are in their final stage of school programming, where the focus shifts to preparing them for life beyond Leach—centered on employment, independence, and meaningful community engagement.

Our Mission
Our mission is to provide authentic, hands-on vocational experiences that prepare interns for the workforce and adult life. Through partnerships with local businesses, interns gain real-world exposure, develop essential job skills, and build the confidence needed to become active, contributing members of their community. We are committed to creating opportunities that are purposeful, inclusive, and aligned to each intern’s individual goals.
